Our take
When to test your well, beyond once a year

The CDC says test a private well at least once a year. We'd add a few other times: when you buy a home with a well; after flooding near the wellhead; when the taste, smell or color changes; after work on the well or pump; and if someone in the house is pregnant or has a new baby, because nitrates matter most for infants.
