You're probably on this page because:
- Someone gets hard water showering at 2 a.m.
- Someone in your home uses water at all hours
Two tanks, no gaps.
Hard water, by the numbers
- About 156 pounds of rock a year: what a family of 4 runs through its pipes at 10 grains of hardness. About 250 pounds in very hard water.
- Up to 48% less efficient: gas water heaters on hard water in testing.
- 1 in 3 homeowners replaced appliances or fixtures because of buildup.

An estimate, not a guarantee. Your numbers depend on your water, your home and your habits. Enter your ZIP code to use your local hardness; until then it assumes 10 grains.
Sources: Water heater efficiency: WQRF and Battelle (gas tank heaters lost up to 48% efficiency on hard water; the calculator uses a conservative middle value). Detergent: WQRF laundry and dishwasher studies (about 30% less at 10 gpg, nearly 70% less at 25 gpg). Fixtures: Battelle (low-flow shower heads clogged in about 18 months on hard water). Appliance figures are our own conservative estimate until customer data replaces them.

Our take
Twin tank vs one big tank
We build our systems with our own manufacturers, some with our own patents, and we've supplied softeners to other water companies for years. Here's what that's taught us.
A single-tank softener has to go offline to recharge, usually at 2 a.m. If someone's showering then, they get hard water for a while. For most homes, that's no problem. For some, it is.
A twin tank fixes that. One tank works while the other recharges, then they switch. That gives you:
Soft water 24 hours a day, for night shifts, big families and early risers. Recharging with already-soft water, which is better for the resin. Only recharging what's used up, which often saves salt.
The tradeoffs: it costs more, takes more space, and there are two resin tanks to maintain over the years. If your home is quiet at night and your water isn't extremely hard, a single big tank is usually the better value. We'll tell you which one fits.

Questions people ask
What is a twin tank water softener?
Two softener tanks that take turns. One softens while the other recharges, so you always have soft water, even during regeneration.
Is a twin tank the same as your Premium Dual-Tank System?
No. A twin tank has two softener tanks. Our Premium Dual-Tank System has one softener tank and one carbon filter tank.
Is a twin tank softener worth it?
For large homes, very hard water, or homes that use water at all hours, yes. For most smaller homes, a single tank is plenty.
Does a twin tank use more salt?
Often less. It only recharges the tank that's used up, and it can recharge with already-softened water.
How much space does it need?
Room for two resin tanks and a salt tank, about [dimensions]. We confirm on the call.
Who should get a twin tank?
Big families, homes with night-shift schedules, and anyone who wants soft water 24/7 with no gaps.
